TheraWash®
Product Information
The human
body has good and bad bacteria on it at all times. Studies have
documented that patients often have a higher bacteria count after
about their third basin bath than they had before the bath. This
is because the same water and cloth are normally used to bathe all
parts of the body and the basins are reused without being sterilized.
Bedside basin bathing can cause infections by wiping bacteria from
healthy skin into minor cuts and abrasions, dry cracked skin, sutures,
and catheter sites. Reducing infections, bed sores and related skin
problems can play a major part in extending the time patients can
be cared for at home and patient comfort.
While it is "only a bath", the TheraWash® concept is a breakthrough
in preventing and correcting causes of skin problems before they require expensive
healing treatments. It is ideal for bathing patients being cared
for at home by loved ones or professional services. It is a major
improvement for facilities faced with ever increasing geriatric
skin problems, government controls, potential bedsore lawsuits,
and shrinking funds. Equally important is that it helps prevent
infecting caregivers as well as patients and can significantly reduce
potential injury from back strains during patient handling. Since
it is antiseptic and air-dries, it should also help reduce bed linen
changes as well as towel and wash cloth costs.
TheraWash® is a 2002 patented product improvement of our
Easy Wash and Sports & Leisure Wash® products that we have been
selling since 1996. TheraWash packages have 8 pre-moistened cloths
that are used to bath different parts of the body and discarded
after use. This helps prevent cross contamination and infections.
The formula includes pure Aloe Vera, Allantoin, and Vitamin E
in amounts shown to be beneficial for skin care. Allantoin is
an FDA recognized skin protectant that also promotes new skin
growth. TheraWash also includes a water-soluble
Beta Glucan in amounts shown to promote cell growth and enhance
the skin's natural immune system. Even its surfactant soaps are
known to reduce inflammations and redness instead of drying out
skin like harsh alkali soaps do.
Sterilizing
TheraWash keeps its antimicrobial preservatives available for after
the package is opened or reclosed. They are made from skin compatible
natural ingredients.
While we make no curative claims and only sell TheraWash as a
cosmetic bathing system, our independent testing has shown remarkable
results with its continued use for bathing.
In vitro (laboratory) antimicrobial tests were done by Microbiology
Consultants, Inc. on (i) the formula and (ii) fabric swatches impregnated
with the composition, using accepted laboratory protocols. In the
first series of tests, the formula and the fabric swatches were
99% effective against Staph. aureus, E. coli, and Candida. albicans.
In the second series, the formula and the swatches were 99% effective
against the new antibiotic-resistant "superbugs" MRSA, C diff. and VRE,
and also highly effective against the Herpes Simplex Type
I and Influenza A viruses.
The Director of Nursing conducted a controlled study of TheraWash®
at a nursing home and rehabilitation center in Florida in March
and April, 2001. The study included 35 geriatric patients: 25 patients
bathed with TheraWash® and 10 patients bathed with their normal
bedside basin baths or assisted shower procedures for at least one
month. The study director reported that patients bathed with TheraWash®
were noted to have improved skin condition (including the elimination
of urine burns, chronic dry skin, and minor skin tears and odor)
in comparison to the conventionally bathed patients. These preliminary
results are believed to be unique in that skin problems are an ongoing,
difficult-to-treat problem in geriatric patients using conventional
products.
